Select Stuart Crew members successfully participated in the Virginia Rowing Championship Saturday, May 10th at Sandy Run Park on the Occoquan River Reservoir. Two boats received medals and others showed well among the hundreds of entries that raced throughout that day.
Medal Winners included:
Silver Medal – Women’s Lightweight Double – Marissa Shand and Emily Nguyen
Bronze Medal – Women’s Single – Laura Hegemann
Both quads competed in heats to make it to the final race, with the women winning their heat …
both are ranked in the top six for the State.
4th Place – Women’s Quad – Stephanie Shand, Emma Wiley, Maggie Crotty, and Maddie Smith (bow)
5th Place – Men’s Quad – Bobby Dubas, Thomas Henderson, Sergio Jimenez, and Noah Pilugin (bow)
Our Men’s Lightweight Double faced off against their rival from Granby; receiving 2nd Place – Sam Garcia and Jackson Steltenpohl.
Our Junior Men’s 4 (Cox-Micheal Crotty, Peter McGuigan, Colin Sullivan, Matt Caple, and Esteban Vargas) earned second place in their heat to advance to the semifinal in a large, competitive category.
And our Women’s Junior 8, anchored by experienced rowers Sylvia Greer and Layla Fawaz, and joined by novices (Cox) Norah Riester, Vittoria Valentine, Erin Dubas, Rachel Jones, Kori Bowman, Parker Novak, and Iman Lahrim came close to making the final in their category finishing in 4thplace in their heat, just behind Oakton.
