Many of you have made a summer/fall rowing program choice, but for those still looking I’d recommend you check out StillWater Rowing. This is an Occoquan-based program started a few years ago focused initially on developmental rowing; however, they’ve added a competitive component now as well. This program tends to be more modestly priced than other local program.
One of our own, Evan Finley, will be coaching for them this summer and can answer questions from a staff perspective.
We’ve heard that they’re in great need of coxswains … they would also welcome anyone who would like to learn to cox.
The StillWater web site is here. I’d be glad to discuss if there are questions, as would Evan.
The other major Occoquan program is Resilient Rowing. They offer a variety of programs and have detailed information on their website. Erin (and Laura) participated in the program last year, and I’m sure she’d be willing to share her experiences.
For those looking for a DC program, Thompson’s Boat Center offers both developmental and competitive options. I’ve heard that Caroline, Pasha, Mackenzie, and India are headed in this direction.
There are also summer and fall programs in Old Town Alexandria sponsored by the TC Williams Crew Boosters. The Shands found the location much more convenient than TBC or Sandy Run. The summer program is not competitive — they work on sculling and sweep techniques (two different programs). The Fall program is a competitive program.
Finally, check out the many links on the Team Camps and Clinics tab on this website.
