My thanks to all the rowers and parents who participated in or supported the team at the PWRC Invitational Erg Sprints yesterday.
The competition involved over 120 rowers from 8 high schools … I’m proud of the effort put forth by every Stuart rower!
- Competing for the women—Margaret Turner, Brooke Carmody, Leilani Curran, Isabelle Schrock, India Verardi, Vivian Tran, Pasha McGuigan, Erin Dubas
- Competing for the men—Robert (Jimmy) Sidney, Brandon Tran, Warner Gates, Long Luu, Vince Geoseffi, Charles Haver, Noah Taylor
I’d also like to recognize Caroline Reze who coxed continuously throughout the afternoon; Coach Sergio Jimenez who managed the men’s efforts; Coach Al Wilson who — as the PWRC President — sponsored the competition and invited Stuart; Helina Mesfin, who cheered on her teammates; and our parent competitors in the parent/child relay—Sonja Schrock, Vicky Carmody, and Paul Taylor.
Many of our rowers placed well in what proved to be a competitive field … we did leave with three medals. Congratulations to Isabelle Schrock — 1st place, 16 & under women; Pasha McGuigan — 1st Place, 18 & under women, and to the parent/child team of Sonja and Isabelle Schrock — 1st place (and a new PWRC record) in the mother/daughter relay.
To the rowers … you saw some of the competition yesterday that you’ll face in the coming months. In many cases they’re bigger than us, but what I saw in several of your performances yesterday was a lot of heart. We can be successful on the water with hard work and heart … we’ll need both going forward — keep working on your fitness!
Lastly, Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprint is next Saturday at TC Williams HS. Registration ended Sunday, and we have three entries — Steven Mullane (1500m junior men), Pasha McGuigan (20 minute row, junior women), and Brooke Carmody (1500m junior women). Please consider coming to the event to support your teammates — there’s no charge to watch, and there will be rowing gear on sale outside the gym.
Coach Mike
