Here’s your chance to spend some time on the water and experience rowing first hand.
Students who will be attending Stuart as well as 8th graders from Glasgow, Poe, or Corpus Christi who are in the Stuart pyramid in the 2017-2018 year are invited to a three-afternoon Learn-To-Row at Sandy Run Regional Park August 10-12. No experience is required — it’s a fun, free experiential event.
You are Ready to Row in 4 Steps
- Complete a waiver (download PDF here). It needs a parent or guardian signature. Print, complete, sign, and email the waiver to JEB Stuart Crew Boosters no later than July 31, 2017.
- Complete a sports physical form,
- Complete an emergency care form, and
- Pass a short swim test, which will be conducted at a local pool in early August.
Where
The three-day Learn-To-Row event will take place at Sandy Run Regional Park, the location of our boathouse. Click here for printable directions or here for Google maps.
What to Wear, Items to Bring
Avoid wearing loose fitting clothing (think leggings or spandex and a t-shirt) and bring sunscreen, a pair of socks, and at least a 32 oz. refillable water bottle. But not too large — the water bottle needs to fit in the boat. You might also want to pack a change of clothes, a towel, and hair ties in a backpack or sports bag that will hold your smart phone, headphones, and house keys to keep valuables safe on land in the boathouse.
Contact Us
Contact JEB Stuart Crew Boosters to let us know you’ll be joining us or for more details. In your email, please provide the rower’s name, grade, and any athletic information you want to share. It might be interesting to note any experience with rowing (“I saw Stuart rowers at the Lake Barcroft parade”) or perhaps a neighbor or sibling has rowed on the Stuart crew team.
Parents are welcome.
