Dear J.E.B. Stuart and Justice High School Crew Friends and Alumni:
The Year in Review. It was another exciting year, with new challenges and opportunities. Our 42 rowers and 6 coaches worked very hard and their dedication paid off.

  • At the Virginia Championship, four boats earned bronze medals—Men’s Lightweight Four, Women’s Senior Quad, Men’s Senior Single, and Women’s Lightweight Double.
  • The Scholastic Rowing Association of America invited three of our boats to compete in the prestigious National Championship Regatta—Women’s Senior Quad, Men’s Lightweight Four, and Men’s Senior Single. Our quad made the final heat, finishing fourth overall.
  • In addition, Pasha McGuigan and Steven Mullane received Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mentions for the 2018 season.

Celebrating our History: Alumni and Friends Celebration.
More than 60 alumni, students, parents and supporters turned out at Lake Barcroft on June 30 to celebrate the founding of JEB Stuart Crew in 1966. It was a special treat to hear from the 1968 Henley team about their  experiences, including the struggles of starting a new team, the support they received from parents and the community, reliance on dedicated coaches, a single-minded belief that you could prevail and, of course, the details of the tremendous season they had in 1968.

Permanent Home for the Miss Fairfax. A group of parents, students and coaches all helped hang the Miss Fairfax in the Sandy Run ERG workout room, where she will overlook generations of rowers to come. The Miss Fairfax (Pocock 8+) was the shell in which Stuart Crew won the prized Princess Elizabeth Cup at the Henley Regatta in 1968. See http://bit.ly/MissFairfax.

None of these achievements would have been possible without your continued financial support, and the talent and continued dedication of our coaching staff: Head Coach Mike David, Assistant Coaches Al Wilson (Prince William Rower Club President), Rob Walker (Justice teacher and Pitt rower), Sergio Jimenez (former Stuart rower), Chip Shand (Crew Dad), and Marissa Marth (GMU rower).

The Year in Transition. In this 52nd year of JEB Stuart Crew, we transition into the new Justice Rowing program. Now, more than ever, Justice Rowing needs your continuing support. We know you appreciate the continued need for upgrades and repair to equipment as well as funding for transportation, operating costs, coach salaries and scholarships. This year marks an especially challenging year financially as we re-brand all of our equipment (80-odd oars, 5 launches, 13 shells, trailer, etc.) and order new uniforms for the team. Additionally, whereas the Boosters had benefitted in previous years from sustained rental income by leasing out our shells to summer rowing programs, that did not occur this past summer, and we need to make up that income through donations. Through your previous generous support, we have been fortunate to be able to provide scholarships for some of our rowers, ensuring access to this wonderful sport for everyone, regardless of financial circumstance. We truly want to continue to provide this opportunity to those who will need it this year, but we need your help to do it.

How you can help Justice Rowing. I ask that you consider making a donation today or provide other support outlined below so that the rich tradition of JEB Stuart Crew continues as we transition to Justice Rowing.

  • A contribution, no matter how great or small, will help. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and your contribution is tax deductible consistent with applicable law. You can make your donation either through our website at justicerowing.org/donation/ or by using the form below.
  • Subscribe to our monthly gift card or coffee program. Purchase grocery and other merchant cards monthly and each purchase provides the team a percentage donation.
  • Assist us with securing corporate or private sponsorship for our capital improvements (new boats, new trailer, for instance). Contact Booster President David Trissell if you have ideas or are able to help.
  • JEB STUART CREW OAR AUCTION. To help finance the cost of new oars, we are holding an online auction for five JEB Stuart Crew Oars. You can see pictures at http://bit.ly/OarAuction2018, and bidding starts at $250 each. The five highest bidders received by 5:00 p.m. on September 14, at justicerowing@gmail.com will each be able to purchase an oar.

Thank you in advance for your generosity to the Justice Rowing Team, a team and legacy you are helping to build.

Row strong,
David Trissell
President
