My thanks to all those who participated in or supported the Prince William Rowing Club Erg Sprints and the move from Sandy Run to Lake Barcroft yesterday. You can find photos from both activities at the links below (thank you, Heidi!).

PWRC Erg Sprints 2019

Move Boats from Sandy Run 2019

Great effort by all the PWRC competitors yesterday—special shoutout to gold medalist Brooke Carmody who broke the 1.5K record in the 18 and under category with a 5:33.5 (the previous record went back to 2010). Also, cheers to the Carmody father (Nate)/daughter 500 m relay entry that won gold and set a new record by breaking their record from last year with a blazing fast 1:29.9.

What to expect this week …

– Mon, February 18, we’ll meet at Beach 4 (1- 4 pm) to rig all the boats and hold our first practice.

– Tue will be the first practice where we’ll start at the school. Meet in front of the school after class prepared to run. The captains will designate 2-3 rowers to serve as drivers to transport backpacks to the beach … everyone else will run in groups to the beach as part of the warmup for practice. Plan to pick up rowers at Beach 4 at 6pm.

– No scheduled Wednesday afternoon practice … rowers should treat this as a cross-training day and do at least 45 minutes of aerobic activity (and get ahead on homework).

– Thu/Fri will be like Tue, weather permitting. If it’s too wet/windy/cold, we’ll revert to an indoor session at the school using rowing machines, weights, etc.  Word will be passed by schools announcement, Twitter, and/or texts from the captains. If we move inside, it will be like a conditioning day and will end at 5:30 pm.

– On Sat will meet at Beach 4 at 9 am and practice until about noon.

We’ll be at Beach 4 until March 16th at which point we’ll load the trailer and move back to Sandy Run. The first competition for experienced rowers will be the Polar Bear Regatta on March 23rd.

You must have a physical on file, both parent and student concussion training complete, and an emergency care form to be able to practice tomorrow. Not all of you have completed these requirements yet … those rowers missing items should have discussed this with Coach Rob on Thursday.

Those of you who didn’t see the USRowing Safety Video on Thursday … Coach Rob has posted the assignment/link to complete this in the Google Classroom we’ve used previously. You have one week to complete the assignment by answering Coach Rob’s questions.

Please make sure you dress in layers, bring spare clothes, pack a snack, and have plenty of water.

Please let me  know if you have questions. Review the team handbook, which has a lot of good info.
