All,
Our racing season officially ended last Friday … a beautiful morning on Dillon Lake, Ohio with Brooke Carmody competing with the best senior women’s singles in the Nation. Please join me in congratulating Brooke for her great effort representing Justice HS and Virginia.
A few more notes as our season comes to a close …
– Thursday evening at 6:00 is the Varsity Awards Banquet at the school. All team members are encouraged to attend. Two of our first-year rowers will be recognized with a Sportsmanship Award … please come out and see who it will be.
– Saturday Car wash, 10:00-2:00 at First Christian Church 6165 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, 22044. Sign up today! Our hope for the 2020 season is to replace one of our 20+ year old quads—this will help!
– Sunday is the team awards picnic from 1-3 at Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club, 3516 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Falls Church, VA. Sign up for set up, clean up or to bring a food contribution. Individual and team awards will be presented … including the new “One Boat, One Pack” award.
– We (Justice Rowing and VASRA) will have some workdays in the coming weeks to make sure our equipment and our facility and course is ready for the off-season. Launches will come off the water, all equipment will be assessed for needed repairs and replacement parts, shells stored outside will be waxed, and more :-). VASRA work days include the next 3 Saturdays, and Justice Rowing must provide at least one volunteer to support each date—June 8 and June 15 (June 1st already covered), 9-12. For more information and to sign up, go to our Sign-Up page.
Final note … as most of you know, this was the last season for me as well as Coaches Chip and Al. The time has come to turn the reins over to the next generation, led by Coach Rob. Coach Al and I joined the team initially to help fill a gap for a few months and we ended up staying for 8 years … time flies. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this historic team, and I am incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from a long list of dedicated parents, coaches, and rowers. I wish you all the best as you work to write the next chapter for “Justice Rowing.”
See you at the boathouse …
Coach Mike
