Justice High School Rowing — Assistant Coach Position

Justice High School Rowing, Falls Church, VA, is looking to hire an experienced Assistant Coach to work with novice and varsity rowers (male and female).

Justice Rowing (averaging 40-45 rowers who both scull and sweep) is one of the oldest rowing programs in Northern Virginia, a founding member of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA) and has enjoyed success through winning or placing at State Championships and participating at Nationals. Its rich history also includes winning the 1968 world title at the Princess Elizabeth Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta.

NOTE: The dates below are for a traditional rowing season. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the below dates will be adjusted, consistent with state and local governing crew organization recommendations.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Implement instruction and training program in preparation for competition.
  • Attend 2 to 4 practices per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons) and coordinate/share responsibilities with other Assistant Coaches on Saturdays during regatta season. Winter conditioning starts late November 2019. On-water practice begins February 2020 with season running through May 2020.
  • Supervise students during all team activities, including bus transport to practices.
  • Coordinate or assist with coordination of race logistics.
  • Assist with recruiting new members, including attendance at booster events and/or teaching a Learn to Row class at the High School or local middle schools.
  • Develop a safe, enjoyable, competitive, and focused learning environment for students in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to function cooperatively within a team of coaches, school administration, and active booster organization.
  • Effectively communicate with athletes, parents, other coaches and booster Board
  • Conduct routine maintenance on/and minor repairs of team equipment

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience coaching rowing at the youth, club, or high school level is preferred. Additionally, candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check by Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system. Must also possess or obtain current First Aid and CPR certification that meets FCPS requirements. Candidates should possess or be willing to obtain a US Rowing coaching certification and/or boating safety certification.

Salary:

Salary based on prior experience and management of Booster/Club priorities.
