We have lots of information for you this week.

Darrell Winslow Regatta this weekend

Critical Need

VASRA has assigned us 2 volunteer slots to fill for this weekend’s regatta: 1) Set up Helper – FILLED; and 2) Shuttle launch driver.  As the park has opened up and there are no restrictions on visitors/participants, our share of responsibilities to provide volunteers WILL GROW over the next four weeks before the State tournament. Please stay tuned for calls for volunteers that are sent out and sign up soon. If a team’s volunteer slots are not filled, the team is assessed penalties, and we want to avoid those. Please respond only to justicerowing@gmail.com if you can volunteer for the Shuttle launch driver person (only qualified drivers please) for this week. An earlier email/post sent explains the details.

Sandy Run Regional Park

With the Governor’s new Executive Order, there are no capacity restrictions on the Park. With that said, the Park will be open to those vaccinated, or who wear masks. If you are vaccinated, you do not need to wear a mask, but certainly are allowed to if you are more comfortable doing so. If you are not vaccinated you will be required to wear a mask.

CHANGES FROM PRIOR YEARS’ REGATTAS—IMPORTANT
Beginning this week, only rowers, coaches and volunteers will be allowed to go beyond parking lots C and D down to the boathouse or the “Point” or docks where our rowers depart/complete. This is to make these areas safer for the rowers and equipment and to generally maintain an “athlete-focused” area.

Parents/spectators will only be allowed in the grandstand area which is where the finish line is.

Parking

Athletes will be able to park inside the Park at Lot D. Volunteers will be able to park at Lot B or close. Athletes are encouraged to carpool and also may be dropped off and picked up at the regatta site.

Spectators will be required to park at the South County High School parking lot—8501 Silverbrook Road, Lorton VA 22079.

A shuttle bus will be provided from here to the Regatta area which leads to the grandstands.

The parking lot shuttle bus will cost $5 each way.

You can walk from the drop off point to the grandstands.

There also is another separate shuttle from the drop off point to the grandstands if you desire. Cost for this shuttle is $3 each way.

VOLUNTEERS CAN PARK AT THE PARK AND ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE THE SHUTTLE OR PAY ANY FEES. Contact justicerowing@gmail.com to volunteer today!

When you take the shuttle, plan for at least 1 1/2 hours to get from the South County parking lot to the grandstands.

UPDATE 5/28 from VASRA:

The shuttles will begin 1.5 hours before the first race and conclude running from Sandy Run NLT 1 hour after the last race.

Athletes in uniforms may ride the shuttle at no cost.

Athlete On-Site Parking: Athletes will park in Loisvale Lot with overflow into D Lot.

There will be a coned area of D Lot for athlete and spectator drop off and pick up. Please Carpool.

Concessions

Concessions will now be provided and available for a cost. Thanks to Sandra for organizing the effort for VASRA. Contact Sandra if you can help with setting up concessions on Friday.

Food for Rowers

Traditionally, the Boosters provide food (high protein, etc.) for the team at the boathouse throughout the day. Given this year, we will not be doing that, and encourage parents to send food with your rower necessary to get them through the day/races. They can also purchase food at the concession areas.

(From the JHS Director of Activities) Varsity Sports Award Banquet —Tuesday, June 8th

We’re so excited to have the opportunity to come back together in person for our 2020-2021 Varsity Sports Awards! The annual Justice Athletics event will be held in Jerry Fauls Stadium.

Each year, Justice Athletics takes the time to bring together all varsity athletes and their families to recognize the season’s accomplishments and present our department wide awards. Please mark your calendars for this special event. As in the past, individual programs will schedule a date & time for their own team awards, to include our lower levels.

Unfortunately, we do have to skip the normal pot luck meal afterwards due to COVID safety protocols. We also realize that many of our programs will still be in the midst of the season, but we are capitalizing on a break in the calendar to ensure an event can take place before the school year ends. Please plan to join us!

6:30pm – College Commitment Recognition

7pm – Varsity Sports Awards Program Begins

As always, please email or call if you have any questions.
