Hello Justice Rowing family,

We are officially in the final stretch of the season and things are heating up! I realize that I forgot to send out last weekend’s recap from the Ted Phoenix Regatta, so we’ll start with that and then look ahead to Saturday’s races and next week’s schedule.

Justice had a very successful day of racing at the Ted Phoenix Regatta. All boats finished in the top 3 of their respective events and several novices raced in sculling boats for the very first time. Our men’s double (M2x) started the day off with their fastest performance this year, taking first calmly and smoothly. Then, our two women’s quads (W4x) went head-to-head in a heat unto themselves! Both quads performed well (taking first and second place ) and gained valuable experience. Our men’s quad (M4x) continued a dominant season, throwing down another first place finish with a time well under 6 minutes. Finally, taking a break from the eight, our novice boys adventured out in the men’s junior quad (MJr4x), taking third place in a large heat. It was their first time racing in a quad, and they looked great!

This weekend we gear up for the Al Urquia Regatta. The following table lists our events, times, and lineups:

Event # Time Boat Lineup (Coxswain – Stern – Bow)
15 10:38am MN8+ (Men’s Novice eight) Zach H. (Cox), Daniel C., Ethan S., Brandon B., Tim W., Ronan B., Nathan W., Luke M., Kyle W.
27 1:02pm WJr2x (Women’s double)
  • Emma B., Suliana B.
  • Valeria P., Liv F.
28 1:09pm W4X (Women’s quad) Sofia P., Jordan T., Catherine B., Grace B.

Looking forward to next week’s Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships (VSRC) on the 18th and 19th, I wanted to map out and initiate planning for the week.

Schedule:

  • Practice days will be Monday through Thursday (6/14 – 6/17)
  • Races will likely start on Friday and continue on Saturday
    • This is not finalized by VASRA yet
    • Novices will likely race on Friday, Varsity on Saturday

Transportation:

  • We do not have a bus chartered for next week’s practices
  • Carpools will need to be coordinated
    • Preferably carpooling by boat
    • If you are a parent willing to drive a carpool, please let us know
  • Rowers should travel directly to Sandy Run

Practice Times:

  • With no school, we have the option to adjust practice times to accommodate schedules and rowers’ needs.
    • For example, it may work better for the Men’s Quad to practice in the mornings, while the Women’s Double needs to practice in the afternoon.
    • Please communicate with your teammates, captains, and coaches ASAP about what time your boat will practice.
    • If no adjustment is needed, practices will remain at their normal times.

Thank you all for your hard work in getting our athletes to this point in the season. We’re almost to the finish line! So, eyes up and get ready to sprint!

Be well, be safe, and row strong,
