Justice High School Rowing—Assistant Coach Position

The Justice High School Rowing Team is seeking an experienced assistant coach for the upcoming 2022 Spring season. The candidate may join the team as an assistant coach or co-head coach with the opportunity to transition to head coach after the 2022 season. The ideal candidate must have prior experience as a rowing coach and preferably has some experience with the management of a high school sports team. Additionally, candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and meet all specified county training requirements (first aid, CPR, etc.). Candidates should be willing to attend or already have US Rowing coaching certification and boat safety certification

Justice Rowing is a historic team and founding member of VASRA. The coaches and board seek to continue our tradition of balancing quality performance with quality academics, active and appreciative involvement in the community, and the positive development and preparation of young athletes for their futures.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of winter conditioning and spring practice plans in preparation for competition. Coordinating with other coaches on lineups and race plans.

  • Attend and assist in all practices. Team practices Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with Saturday regattas in the Spring. Typical practices start at 4:15 pm and conclude around 6:15 pm. Winter conditioning starts late November and on-water sessions start late February.

  • Supervising, Instructing, and assessing student-athletes technique and strength.

  • Assist in the general maintenance and transportation of equipment to away regattas and recruiting events.

  • Actively communicate with the booster board, high-school athletic department, and other governing entities (VASRA, USRowing, etc.)

  • Be comfortable coordinating and working with volunteers, parents, and Boosters in the execution of the rowing program.

  • Develop a safe, enjoyable, competitive, and focused learning environment for students in a professional manner.

Salary:

Salary based on prior experience and management of Booster/Club priorities.
