Happy Fall! I hope to see many of you at tomorrow’s Open House at the Lake, or at some of our upcoming events below.
Justice Rowing Open House—Saturday, Oct. 2, 11-1, Lake Barcroft, Beach 4.
This is one of our premier recruiting events, and we need your help to make it a success.
- New rowers and parents can learn about our crew program
- Returning rowers/parents can introduce our rowing community to new folks
- Help us introduce our newest boat “The Barcroft” to the Lake Community
All current rowers are required to participate in this event, and Coach Rob will be reaching out to you. To participate in rowing during the Open House, rowers need to complete and bring a signed Liability Waiver, available at the Forms tab. The physical address for Beach 4 is 3533 Duff Drive, Falls Church. The SignUp Genius is available here. Details about the event are here.
Annual Justice Rowing Letter Fundraiser
You may have already received our letter (or will soon) about the various ways you can support Justice Rowing over the next year. Our last 2 years have been modest in terms of fundraising due to the Covid-19 restrictions, so we need all of your help—no amount is too small. Your donations provide important scholarships for those who need help with dues payments, helps replace equipment to keep our boats in top condition, and provides safe and reliable transportation to and from our practices at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan River. We are the only club in our area which includes transportation to/from practice as part of our dues—we don’t charge a separate transportation fee like many other clubs. Each day of bus transportation for our club is approximately $400, and we receive no funds from the school to help offset this basic team need. Please give what you can today—and THANK YOU!
Save the Date—November 6–7—Head of the Occoquan (HOTO) Regatta
Justice Rowing has been invited to help out with parking for this regatta, which features collegiate and high school rowing programs. For our participation, the crew team will receive a donation from the Occoquan Boat Club (the regatta’s sponsor) and the amount we receive depends on the number of volunteers we provide. This is a great fundraising opportunity over a short amount of time. Justice Rowing is expected to sign up for 12-15 slots over the two days. Stay tuned for a SignUp Genius link with more information.
Wreath, Poinsettia and Coffee Sales—October 1-30
Our largest fundraiser of the year is in progress. You should have received a flyer in the mail (or will soon) or shop online and order today. Pick up products on December 4—details to follow.
Membership Meeting—November 3 at Justice High School
All rowers are expected to participate. Coach Rob Walker will outline expectations for the year, and the Boosters will provide information about volunteer requirements. All forms necessary for registering will be available. Details about where and when will be coming soon.
New Assistant Coach Nate Carmody
We are excited to welcome Nate Carmody as an Assistant Coach! Nate is no stranger to Justice Rowing, and certainly not to rowing as a sport. He (and Vicki, his wife) rowed at UVA during college where he served as Captain of the team, then moved to become Head Coach at the University of Colorado. His daughter, Brooke, was a recent JHS rower who is now rowing for UVA’s women’s team. Look for Nate at the Open House, and at upcoming events.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
