Head of the Occoquan

THANK YOU to the eighteen rowers and parents and alumni parents who helped us meet our goal of supporting the HOTO parking fundraiser on Nov. 6-7.  Also thanks to the launch drivers (Coach Maggie and Mark Ward) who will be enabling a safe and secure race for both Saturday and Sunday. HOTO appreciates our commitment. Watch for details to those who signed up closer to the event.

Wreath, Poinsettia and Coffee Sales – LAST WEEKEND for GREENERY ORDERS!

Sales are brisk so please send the word around to neighbors and friends that sales end 10/30 for our largest fundraiser of the year. Poinsettias and coffee are locally sourced, so you can order until November 5.

General Team and Membership Meeting (mandatory for returning rowers)

Nov. 3 at 7:00 at the Little Theater at JHS.

Please come to learn about the season and register!

Volunteer Opportunities

For our program to work, we need each family to sign up for at least one “key” volunteer role that helps the team —we need everyone!

Specific jobs include:

  • Treasurer – makes payments; interacts with bank (deposits/checks/credit card)
  • Bookkeeper – prepares annual budget; tracks deposits/accounting for budget lines
  • Equipment/Maintenance – handles rental of equipment (shells during off season); helps maintain equipment (facilitate routine launch engine repairs/upkeep, shell trailer, boat trailer, ERGs)
  • Fundraising – Car washes, WP and Coffee sales, Scrip, Restaurant nights, Grocery card and Amazon contributions, etc.
  • Vice President – everything else….assist where needed
  • Recruitment – Glasgow Fall ERG program; Summer Learn to Row program (1 week); Open House weekend; Justice High School display cases
  • Pasta Dinners – coordinate sign ups for Friday Night Pasta Dinners before regattas (hosted by parents)
  • Travel Regatta Coordinator – Mathews (potential) and Stotesbury regattas (Philadelphia) – assist with travel plans/hotel reservations/etc.
  • VASRA Regatta Volunteers – As part of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association, each team is required to provide volunteers for each regatta based on team size. In the past, that’s meant Justice Rowing provides concession help, launch drivers, launch and recovery dock workers, etc. at each regatta.
  • More details on the volunteer jobs listed above and others can be found at justicerowing.org/boosters/
