1) Boat Move TWO, and VASRA Volunteer Signups
UPDATE March 11 due to INCLEMENT WEATHER:
We still have a couple of empty slots for adults to fill for our Boat Move next weekend and to complete our VASRA volunteer commitment. Boat Move Two start time now 12:30 PM on Sunday. Thanks to all of you who have already signed up!
2) Season kickoff potluck dinner—March 18, 6:00-8:00 PM, Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club
Our team has a tradition of kicking off the rowing season with a potluck the Friday before the first regatta—the Polar Bear Regatta. After a two-year hiatus, our potluck this year will be held at the Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club (SHBR) at one of the outdoor pavilions, the same venue as our end of year picnic/awards event, 3516 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Falls Church.
Please sign up today.
3) Friday Night Pasta Dinners
Another tradition we’re planning to revive is Friday Night Pasta Dinners. If you’re up for hosting the rowers (no parents!) with pasta, garlic bread, and dessert, this event is for you. It’s a great team-building event for the rowers. Please sign up to host.
If we don’t have volunteers, we won’t have a team dinner that night. Suggested menu is attached. Plan for approximately 35 rowers.
4) Regatta Reminders—Polar Bear Regatta (3/19) and Regional Park Regatta (3/26)
Important Regatta Reminders: There is no parking at Sandy Run Regional Park (unless you are a volunteer); you will need to park at South County High School (SC), 8501 Silverbrook Rd, Lorton, VA 22079 and take a shuttle ($10/round trip) to get to the regatta site. The SC Parking lot is about 15-20 minutes from Sandy Run. From the Sandy Run drop-off, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk down to the Grandstands where you can watch the race.
NOTE: Plan to be at the SC parking lot at least 1 to 1-1/2 hours BEFORE your rower competes. We will send out a schedule of the races usually Friday after we receive it from VASRA. Traffic, congestion, etc. can cause delays. Wear comfortable walking shoes and you might consider bringing a cushion as the grandstands are concrete.
A concession stand and restrooms are available at the Grandstands. At most regattas, there will also be regatta T-shirts ($20-25) which are a nice memento for the kids. For the most up-to-date information on Regattas/Sandy Run, follow @VASRAresults on Twitter.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
