Happy New Year and only 42 days left before we row on Lake Barcroft! Several upcoming deadlines and events of which you should be aware:
1) Registration — The deadline for registration is 1/15. We need everyone to meet this deadline so that we can plan for the season, including ordering uniforms if necessary. Register today!
Scholarship applications were due last Friday, 1/6, but the deadline is extended one more week until this Friday, 1/13. We must receive all information required on the registration/scholarship application form by Friday in order to submit all requests to the Occoquan Boat Club, the scholarship provider.
2) Rowing Jacket Orders — If you are interested in ordering a rowing jacket we must receive your order and payment by this Friday, 1/13. Send order requests (size) and personalization requested (on front chest name and graduation year – e.g., “J. Doe ’26”) to Adblackadar@outlook.com. Jackets can be viewed at SewSporty.com. The cost of jackets have increased this year due to raw goods and labor costs to $256.50, which includes personalization (name and graduation year). They are a very durable item and should last your rower for many years. If you’d like to see an example, drop by ERG practice after school or send a message to justicerowing@gmail.com
3) Boosters Meeting — Thursday, Jan. 12 – 7:00 P.M. Check email for link and access.
4) ERG Competition —February 11th at Gar-Field Senior High School — After a several-year COVID-hiatus, we’ll be competing in an ERG competition. This will include rowers AND parent/rower teams. More details coming soon. Location: Gar-Field Senior High School, 14000 Smoketown Rd., Woodbridge, VA 22192.
5) Boat Move Day — February 18: We need help to move our boats and equipment from Sandy Run up to Lake Barcroft for our first day of on-the-water practice. Parents, sign up! Rowers, this is an ALL-HANDS event. We’re asking parents (and for a coordinator) to provide snacks for the Sandy Run crew (power bars, doughnuts) and an easy lunch at Lake Barcroft (sandwiches/pizza). Please reply if you can help out.
6) Volunteer Opportunities — Supporting the club takes many volunteers, from moving and helping clean boats, to bringing food and helping out in so many other ways. Go to our Sign-Up Genius to review volunteer opportunities for the entire year and sign up! Get your first choice of assignments for the year by using the tabs at the top of the web page.
**A separate volunteer sign-up will be sent in mid-February for our required VASRA regatta volunteer assignments.
Please reach out if you’ve got any questions. Go Wolves!
