Hello Justice Rowing Families: This week marks the fifth week of our season and the Ted Phoenix Regatta this coming Saturday. PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY – the Offsite parking lots change weekly.
WEEK BEHIND
Thanks for everyone’s help in supporting the Spring Break carpools. We got in a lot of rowing, saw across-the-board improvements, and are well-positioned for the rest of the season. Accordingly, Justice Rowing had a great showing at the Darrell Winslow regatta on Saturday. With a total of seven Justice boats racing in only three races, we won all three races, as well as a couple of seconds and thirds. In the women’s double, our senior double defeated our junior double (the junior double agreed to race as a double as long as they wouldn’t be only racing our senior double, oops). In the women’s quad, our novice quad with (adding “with” to the end of the boat implies that the boat has a coxswain) beat both a senior quad and a junior quad with, to earn their first first place of the season. In the men’s senior quad, we took 1st (the 2nd 1st for this boat), 3rd, 4th (our junior quad), and 6th (with two true novices racing for the first time). Overall, it was a terrific showing.

WEEK AHEAD
With normal practice and beautiful weather looking ahead, it’s a perfect week for rowing. We’ll mix boats up on Monday (maybe even a little bit of seat racing), do a lot of technical work, and set racing boats by Thursday’s practice. As a reminder, the team policy is that a rower is ineligible for the weekend’s race if they miss two or more days of practice in a week.

Friday Night Pasta Dinner, 7 pm (after rowers return from practice)-9 pm: Christine and Ethan Sobol are hosting this Friday’s Pasta Dinner. Please show up directly after practice and pick up rowers promptly by 9:00 to prepare for a big day of racing! The street address is in the email dated 4/10/2023.
Regatta Food Table: We provide food for our rowers on Saturdays, and many sign-up slots remain open. Sign up for any/all of our regattas in one place. Don’t worry about getting it down to Sandy Run – we can coordinate with early volunteers to get it down there for you.
Regatta Schedules: Plan on learning about when your rower will compete on or about Thursday/Friday once the race schedules are set by VASRA (this usually happens late Thursday/early Friday). Rowers should be at Sandy Run NO LATER THAN TWO HOURS before their race. Rowers may be dropped off at Sandy Run, but there is no parking at Sandy Run for spectators. Rowers driving themselves may park free at Sandy Run, but should carpool with their teammates if possible (optimizes parking and minimizes the chances of rowers being late). Rowers must be driving the vehicle.
Spectator Parking: ALL spectators must park off-site and take a shuttle bus to Sandy Run. The shuttle bus costs $15 round trip. Once the shuttle bus drops you off it is about another 15-20 walk to the finish line. You may also pay a separate $5 each way for a shuttle from the drop-off point to the Finish Line area.
Parking this weekend is at 1325 Old Bridge Rd., Woodbridge
Please allow yourself at least an hour to get to the regatta. There is always traffic on Old Bridge Road that can cause delays.
The following people have volunteered and can park for free at Sandy Run; David Trissell and Karen Lyons. We are in need of a Stakeboat holder. Contact Sandra (refer to email dated 4/13/2023).
The following LOCs may park on-site and at the Grandstand: Machelle Nowlin, Maricela Suarez, Beth McMartin, Zach Hardy, and Melanie Brooks Wiess.
PARKING INFORMATION IS INCLUDED IN THE PARKING TAB at VASRA.org.
