Hello Justice Families,
Welcome to the Pre-Season Prep for Crew! The season is almost upon us, and the excitement is building with preparations at Sandy Run Regional Park. You play a critical part in these preparations as the volunteers that help Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA) at every regatta and workdays. The River Ratz, Concessions Staff, Dock Masters, and other VASRA people are already working to prepare the river and park for our Rowers..
I am your VASRA Volunteer Coordinator, Machelle Nowlin, you can call me Mach (Pronounced Mac)! My Rower/Student is Josiah (JoJo/Joe) Nowlin, a Senior, third-year rower and Captain of the boy’s team. I am a 3rd-generation Military (US Army – Military Police). I like to have fun but will always put safety first! In addition to being your volunteer Coordinator, I am your team LOC. Because this is my last year with the team both of these jobs will need to be filled for the following season. If you would like to take over either or both of these jobs, please let me know. I would be more than happy to show you the rope and get you ready for net season.
All information disseminated by me is to support the rower’s regattas. Therefore, it is important and in need of your attention. All our communications will require you to consider volunteering for jobs that are crucial to the team being able to row. Every weekend we are assigned jobs based on the number of entries we have in the regatta. Those jobs must be filled by our team. I have created a Sign Up with all our job assignments. The link is below.
Please ensure that you fully read ALL communications sent from me! I am your only voice of communication with VASRA. It is imperative that I (not our coaching staff or any Booster Officer) know if you are late or can’t fulfill your obligation immediately. If you communicate with anyone other than me and there is a problem our team can be fined, and you will be responsible for paying the fine. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE COMMUNICATED DIRECTLY WITH ME FOR VOLUNTEER QUESTIONS
Attached to this email you will find the Volunteer Job Descriptions, Parking instructions and a map of Sandy Run. Please review these documents. Once you feel you understand the jobs click on the SUG link and sign up for one of the volunteer opportunities. We need to have all roles filled by March 9, 2024.
[Machelle’s email address and phone were provided in the team email.] I prefer text messages over voicemails. You may want to keep this contact information in your phone and have it handy. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
I am looking forward to an exciting season with competitive rowing on the Occoquan. Please help make this a successful, safe, and fun season.
Machelle N.
VASRA Volunteer Coordinator
P.S. Remember we need to meet the deadline of March 9th – having all positions filled, I will email regularly until all positions are filled.
