Hello Justice Rowing Families. This week marks the sixth regatta of our season, the Ryz Obuchowicz Regatta. PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL THOROUGHLY.
Week Behind — Ted Phoenix Regatta
Cancelled.
Week Ahead — Ryz Obushowicz Regatta
Our weather this spring has been very favorable, with only three days of unrowable weather so far. Sadly, two of these days have been regatta days. While this does make it difficult to ensure everyone rows as in as many regattas as possible, we will be looking to put more rowers in smaller boats to close out the season. We have 2 more regattas before State Championships, Ryz Obuchowicz on April 20th and Al Urquia on April 27th. As we approach the culmination of the rowing season, it is more important than ever to take care of the little things: keeping hands clean, getting enough sleep, proper nutrition, and of course staying hydrated.
Coach Nate
Friday Night Pasta Dinner, 7-9: The Friels are the hosts of this Friday’s Pasta Dinner — Thank you! Rowers, please show up directly after practice and leave promptly by 9:00 to prepare for a big day of racing! The address is in your email inbox dated April 15.
Regatta Food Table: We provide food for our rowers on Saturdays, and many slots remain open. Please go to the Sign-up Genius page where you can sign up for any/all of our regattas in one place. Don’t worry about getting it down to Sandy Run – we can coordinate with early volunteers to get it down there for you; just send an email to this address if you need help.
Regatta Schedules: Find the heat/race schedule at vasra.org on Thursday/Friday. Rowers should be at Sandy Run NO LATER THAN TWO HOURS before their race. Rowers may be dropped off at Sandy Run, but there is no parking at Sandy Run for spectators. Rowers driving themselves may park at Sandy Run, but should carpool with their teammates if possible (optimizes parking and minimizes the chances of rowers being late). CARPOOLING IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED (by team/boat, if possible).
Spectator Parking: ALL spectators must park off-site and take a shuttle bus to Sandy Run. The shuttle bus costs $15 round trip. Once the shuttle bus drops you off it is about another 15-20 walk to the grandstands for viewing. You may also pay a separate $5 each way for a shuttle from the drop-off point in Lot C to the Grandstand/Finish Line area. Offsite parking is at South County High School, 8501 Silverbrook Rd, Lorton, VA 22079. MORE INFORMATION IS at VASRA.ORG.
1972 Stuart Class Reunion, Saturday, June 1: Join us to help grill, bake and serve to support the Stuart Class of 1972 reunion. This will be a major fundraising effort to help replace our aging launch motors and renovate several of our launches. Sign-Up Genius to come soon!
Car washes – save the dates!: We had a great turnout at yesterday’s carwash and raised over $1,000. We have at least one more car wash planned for May 5, 12:30-5, including a detailing service offered by a former JHS rower! Sign up to help out. Thanks to Melanie for organizing, and for all of the rowers and volunteers who gave up part of their Sunday afternoon to help out! Pics of some of yesterday’s crew.
