Happy New Year! It’s been great seeing many of you at winter conditioning, and I know other team members have been working hard at their winter sport.

Our season officially starts on February 20, but there are a few events between now and then that I want you to know about.

First, Prince William Rowing Club (PWRC) has invited Stuart to participate in their annual Erg Sprint event on January 28. I’ve attached the expected events list … note that there are opportunities for everyone to row, including parents. There is no charge to participate (PWRC may sell T-shirts). We had a great team turnout last year and the coaches hope for the same this year. This is a good chance to see some of the rowers you’ll compete against this spring. I’ll ask the captains to make a list of those willing to compete … I’ll handle the registration with PWRC. Here are photos from last year — http://jebcrew.phanfare.com/7146627

Second, the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints is the following Saturday, February 4. This is a larger, more formal indoor competition (see our website for additional info and some pictures from last year). There is an “early bird” rate ($20) if you sign up by this Saturday (January 8); after that the cost increases to $30. I encourage team members to participate, especially if you’d like to test yourself against a larger, competitive group. You have to register online to compete (involves a waiver). Please let me know if you intend to race and I’ll ensure coaching support for your event.

Finally, please plan to support the movement of our equipment from Sandy Run to Lake Barcroft on Saturday, February 18. We will move shells/oars and at least one of our launches to get ready for the season start on February 20.
