Rowers/Parents,

First, my thanks to the team members, coaches, and parents who worked hard today to move our equipment and get our Beach 4 training site ready to go—everything is in place to start the season on Monday

Outline for the next three weeks below. Questions? Reference the email/s, then contact your coaches.

Effective Tuesday

  • Getting to Beach 4 (starting on Tuesday) — as part of the daily work out, the team will meet in front of the school at 3:15 ready to run. Only 2-3 student drivers will bring cars to the beach to carry all the backpacks of those running. Those with injuries that limit running will be able to ride. The captains will manage the driver/rider list. 
  • If you will miss practice you must notify the coaches — the day prior and early in the practice day you can do so by email; if it’s at the last minute then use text. Mobile device numbers for the coaches were sent via email to the entire team. Add to your contacts list.
  • Rowers should be at the beach by 3:30; plan to be on the water by 3:45.
  • We’re limited at Barcroft to two coaching launches, so there will be only four shells on the water at any one time. We need two on-water shifts to get everyone on the water for practice— 3:45–4:45 and 4:55–5:55 allowing 10 minutes to change out rowers at halftime.
  • While on land, rowers will workout by using the ergs, running, or completing body circuits in the parking lot — there should be no idle time — you are either moving equipment, exercising, or rowing. 
  • To speed the transition, 3 of the 4 shells on the water (Intimada8or, Henley, and CruShell) will hot-dock (the rowers will change out; the boat will stay on the water). 
  • At 6:00 p.m., all team members will help recover shells and oars with the goal to release all rowers by 6:15. Those who drove down with the student gear will return any rower who left a car at the school. 

We will not practice on Wednesday, but all rowers are expected to do at least 30 minutes of physical activity — run, do body circuits, etc. Fitness is a key component of competing well in this sport.

On Saturday we tentatively plan to practice from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. 

Monday’s Beach plan (12 – 4 pm)…

  • Dress in layers and bring water!
  • Novices will row with experienced rowers in sweep boats.
  • Lineups will be provided by the coaches at practice—some rowers are still missing required training or paperwork and won’t be able to row unless those items are completed.  

First shift/week 1 — Experienced Girls -— Shine On/CruShell; Experienced/Novice Boys — Henley/Intimada8or.

  • Move the oars for your shell to the dock area but don’t block the path.
  • Move the two bags of safety gear/paddles to the launches.
  • Quads will launch first, followed by the sweep boats.

Second Shift/week 1 — Experienced Boys — Saber/CruShell; Experienced/Novice Girls — Henley/Intimada8or.

  • Initially move the ergs from the trailer to the parking lot.
  • You’ll do a land work out under the supervision of a coach.
  • Second shift boys be ready to hot dock the CruShell at 4:40.
  • Second shift girls be ready at the dock at 4:45.

Equipment notes

The shells will be returned to the place they are now. All shells will be tied down on their racks and wiped down with a towel.

Oar assignments

  • CruShell – orange grip Concept2s. These are new style grips from Concept2.
  • Shine On – pink grip Crokers.
  • Saber – blue grip Crokers.
  • Henley – Crokers (wood handle ends).
  • Intimada8or Concept2s.
  • Oars should be returned to the same area where they are currently stored.
