We had our best Stotesbury Cup Regatta performance in quite a while … since 2010 there have been only two Stuart boats that qualified for the semifinals (one in 2010 and one 2014). This year, of the seven boats we took to Philly, four made it to the semifinals and two came very close to making it. My thanks to the rowers, coaches, and parents who made this a very successful weekend for Stuart Crew.
Those making it to the semifinals … men’s junior 2X – Steven/Chris, men’s junior 4X – Vince/Sam F/Noah/Markus, women’s senior 2X – Marissa/Isabelle, and the women’s senior 4X – Erin/Pasha/Stephanie/Emma. Both women’s boats missed the making the final by one place in their respective semifinal races.
I’m proud of the way our rowers represented the team, both on and off the water, during this trip.
We now turn to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship Regatta. Three Stuart boats have been invited to participate—our lightweight men’s quad (Vince/Sam F/Noah/Markus), our women’s senior varsity quad (Erin/Pasha/Stephanie/Emma), and our women’s junior four (Caroline (cox)/Mackenzie/India/Hannah/Isabelle). There are 158 teams from across the country that have been invited to race.
The boats going to Nationals will practice Monday/Tuesday, load on Wednesday, and then travel to Dillon Lake, Ohio, early on Thursday. Given the “invitational” nature of the regatta, there are no time trials—all our boats we’ll compete in semifinal races on Friday with the 6-boat finals slated for Saturday.
Also, this week Coach Al Wilson will use our new 8 (now rigged for sculling) to do some sculling work aimed mostly at current novice rowers. I’ll provide more detail in a separate email later, but the plan is to do this on Thursday and Friday when the river is quiet.
