Justice Rowing Supporters:

Justice Rowing is looking forward to a strong season this year which is only made possible through your continued financial and volunteer support and encouragement.

2022 – The Year in Review

Rowers again started their long road to the water by participating in November conditioning and workouts four days per week. February on-the-water practice at Lake Barcroft came quickly, with an abbreviated three weeks at the Lake before heading down to our boathouse at Sandy Run and the Occoquan River.

A full slate of races began following the initial Polar Bear Regatta with only upperclassmen participating. The team had a promising start with strong intra-squad competition for seats in the men’s and women’s quad and novices growing their skills and testing new lineups. Throughout the mid-season, the team completed strong, consistently finishing in the top three positions in the men’s quad and double, and growing small-boat skills in the women’s double categories. After having qualified for finals at VSRCs (States), our men’s quad took silver for the second year in a row alongside other final performances from the men’s junior quad, men’s senior double, women’s senior quad, women’s double, women’s novice four, and men’s novice eight. Following states, the team took advantage of the opportunity to travel to the historic Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia for the first time in 3 years! The racing—and weather—came fast and hard, but the team enjoyed the weekend and a final chance to compete.

2023 – The Year Ahead

We said a fond farewell to Coach Rob Walker who stepped away as Head Coach after many years of tremendous success and tireless dedication to the program. This year we welcome back Coach Nate Carmody as our new Head Coach. Many of you involved in the Justice Rowing program may recognize the Carmody name, as Nate’s daughter, Brooke, competed at Justice Rowing, garnering many singles accolades, and then went to UVA where she rows for the Cavaliers. Nate and his wife Vicky met rowing at UVA, then later went to coach rowing in Colorado. Coming back with Coach Nate this year to coach will be Coach Bill Breed. Coach Maggie Crotty, a solid fixture for many years coaching at Justice, will be moving out of the area and thus not coaching again this year at Justice. Coach Maggie will be missed for her institutional knowledge, her easy rapport with the rowers, and her excellent work ethic and commitment to the Justice Rowing program over the years.

How you can support Justice Rowing

Your generous support over the past several years is so appreciated – THANK YOU! We realize that not everyone is in a financial position to give; if you are able, we are grateful for your generosity.

Our annual Wreath, Poinsettia, and Coffee Fundraiser has begun and continues through October 31. Download the flyer to place your order or shop today at www.justicerowing.org/shop. The online store is always open! For more on ordering options, click here.

As most of you know, Justice Rowing receives no school or county funding and runs solely on your generous donations, our fundraisers (see below), and the annual dues collected from students. While annual dues provide about one-half of the funds needed to run the program, the remaining one-half comes from fundraisers and donations like yours which allow us to run the program, as well as offer scholarships to students who need them. Justice Rowing wants rowing to be available to EVERYONE! Here’s how you can help:

  • A contribution of any size will help. We are a 501(c)(3) organization (Justice High School Rowing Boosters, Federal Tax ID 54-6074527) and your contribution is tax deductible.
